Hace unos años, teniendo noticia de la fiesta del Cascamorras en Baza, Granada, a Frederic Amat le resulto inevitable ir hacia su encuentro y vivir de cerca esta celebración ancestral en donde una multitud de jóvenes suben, a media tarde, a lo alto de un cerro y se embadurnan con una tintura negra como petróleo de la cabeza a los pies. Amat no dejará pasar la oportunidad de trabajar esta manifestación popular, festiva y antropológica, a través del ojo del artista especializado en la mancha. Amat, an artist who specializes in stains, did not miss this opportunity to document this manifestation of traditional folklore and anthropological significance. Immersed in the tumult black tar, recording with his camera the ink-stained celebrants, Amat produced a series of images on which later he made subtle interventions with black paint, bringing out a sense of movement, masking a face, or underlining a fleeting trace. The dance of ink with ink is heightened into a striking dialogue of blackened surfaces.
