INVASION, RELIGION, and REVOLUTION IN TWELFTH CENTURY IRELAND
In 1154 Henri, King of the English, was granted the Lordship of Ireland by the English Pope, Hadrian. In 1169, he arrived in Ireland with an army to put his Lordship into effect.
One man decided to resist him – Cormac Mac Cartaigh, son of Diarmaid Rii, King of Desmond. Cormac defied his father, took to the mountains of Cill Airne, and launched his heresy and his rebellion.
